Washtenaw ACA President & CEO Kristen Columbus was recently featured on WEMU’s Washtenaw United program, where she spoke about both the opportunities and the threats facing people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in Washtenaw County.
In the conversation, Kristen shared how last year’s landmark legal settlement secured the right for people with IDD to hire and retain caregivers — a vital step toward dignity and independence. She also warned that looming state budget cuts could put those hard-won gains at risk.
Drawing from her experience as both a parent of a young adult with complex developmental disabilities and a longtime advocate, Kristen underscored ACA’s role as an “unapologetic advocate” and a trusted local resource for over 75 years.
